Buenas Tardes!
This week was a very special one for me! We got a reference from our offices and it was a blind lady who hadn't attended church in a really long time. Her name is Socorro. She feels so alone because she lost her sight, and no one in her family helps her with anything, and I mean nada! She is literally left to fend for herself.
She reached out for the missionaries, because that's all she knew she could do. She has this incredible desire to attend church, but she has an incredible trial that prohibits her from being able to provide for herself. It was so hard for me to hear all that she was telling us, and all the struggles she has gone through for 3 years. She asked us to help her attend church this Sunday, and as a missionary I had to make this possible. I promised her that she would attend church, and I would do all in my power to allow her to partake of the sacrament.
We spent all week working with the Relief Society President to try and find a person to help us get her to the church, because it's a rule that we can't be alone with a woman unless there is a man of 18 years or more with us. We searched all week for a person to help us but nothing was happening. I kept praying and praying for Heavenly Father to fulfil this promise I made, because I keep my word.
In the last minute of Saturday I was calling and calling, and I found Carlos, a young man preparing for a mission, who met up with us and took his personal time and money to help us bring Socorro to church. It was such an amazing act of service to me, helped us get a taxi and get her into the chapel.
While in the chapel I sat next to her while my companion talked with some members. She just sat there and began to cry, and cry. She began to thank me for all the sacrifices we made to get her there, and told me God will bless my companion and I for all that we have done. I told her it is our mission to serve, and it was a privilege for us to serve her. Later in the meeting I helped guide her hand towards the sacrament to partake of the bread and water. It was so incredible to just sit with her and help her feel the spirit that was so strong in that sacrament meeting.
I can testify that God helps his children. It was truly a privilege to serve this woman, and I am thankful my Heavenly Father gave me this opportunity to serve one of his chosen daughters, who has experienced so much tribulation. I testify that as missionaries when we make a promise, if we do our part, the Heavens will move to make your promise possible. I can testify that missionaries aren't just papers assigned a mission, but that all your talents, personality, and spirit are assigned where they belong. I am glad I belong here and can serve here.
Love you all!
Elder Griffin
